Correlation means that as one variable increases another variable increases (positive correlation) or decreases (negative correlation). But, we do not know if the variation of one variable causes or not the variation of the other variable. Maybe both variations are caused by an unknown variable in the study. If we know that the variation of one variable causes the variation of the other variable, we can claim causation. Conclusion: correlation does not imply causation.
