For the nonparametric tests, it does not matter what is the underlying distribution of the data or the distribution of the test statistic. It just happens that the test statistic follows a normal distribution, in the large sample case. Notice that, there are some cases in which both parametric and nonparametric tests can be used. The difference lies in the procedure used.
