Answer

The experimental study. The 100 respondents go through two different types of treatments and the responses are recorded for analyzing the effect of texting while driving. The type of experimental design: The provided experimental design is a matched-pair design. As the selected samples are 100 students who are used to texting at the time of driving the car and the data is collected from the same individual after and before the treatment, the experimental design can be considered as a matched-pair design. The response variable: The response variable in the study is the reaction time of the students after seeing the red light. The reaction time after seeing the red light is recorded for 100 volunteers. Therefore, the reaction time can be considered as the response variable. The independent variable: The independent variable in the study is the red light. The reaction time after seeing the red light is recorded for the 100 volunteers. Therefore, the red light can be considered as the independent variable. The controlled factors: The experimenter can control the factors such as the timing and location. The time of driving and the location can affect the reaction time of the drivers. So, the experimenter can control the factors such as this and can perform the study in a predefined time and location. Therefore, the timing and location of driving can be considered as the controlled factors of the study. The data collection process: The data can be collected without affecting the observational units if the data is collected by using one-sided blinding in the experiment. The introduction of the one-sided blinding can help in the data collection without harming the subjects. In one-sided blinding experiment, either the researcher or the subjects are not aware of the treatment. If the students do not know about the treatment, the risk of injury will be reduced. The result of the study: The study indicates that texting during driving is dangerous. The study is done to check whether texting during driving the car is dangerous or not. The study is done among 100 students. It is seen that the students react fast in the red light signal when students are not texting on phone compared to the situation when students are texting. To do the analysis, the reaction time of the students on red light is considered as the response variable and the same group of students is allowed to drive the car twice, once when the students are allowed to text and once when the students are not allowed to text. The result indicates that texting while driving is more dangerous because students react late when they are texting during driving.
