Chapter 5 - Self-Review Test - Page 217: 9

Answer

b. p = 0.50

Work Step by Step

n = no. of trials. P = probability of success in each trial. In terms of an example where a person tosses a coin. The chance that HEADS is an outcome is 50% or 0.5 and the chance that TAILS is an outcome is 50% or 0.5. This means that no outcome is favored by the data. A probability (p) of higher or lower than 0.5, means that either SUCCESS (HEADS) or FAILURE (TAILS) is more likely than the other which in turn means the data is skewed to favor an outcome.
