Chapter 6 - Normal Probability Distributions - 6-6 Assessing Normality - Beyond the Basics - Page 305: 23

Answer

lognormal distribution.

Work Step by Step

In order to solve this problem, we put all the data into Microsoft Excel. Then, we highlight all the data, click the insert tab, and select the picture that resembles a histogram. When we do this, we can see that the data are not bell shaped, hence it is not a normal distribution. Now, we consider the values to be part of a logarithmic function. Using the Control Down command (Ctrl+d), we make all the values in the first column exponents with base 10. Then, doing the same process as in part a), we create a histogram. This histogram is bell-shaped, hence the distribution is a lognormal distribution.
