Chapter 1 - Section 1.11 - Solving Equations and Inequalities Graphically - 1.11 Exercises - Page 122: 49

Answer

Graphical solution is faster and easier to understand. Algebraic solutions takes more time and effort to calculate, but gives more precise answer.

Work Step by Step

Although the algebraic and graphical solutions both give the same, correct, answer both of them are very useful methods. For the best and clear solution, I would say both of the methods have to be used while solving a problem. Algebraic method might be more complex compared to the graphical method, but is more precise and gives the exact answer. It is more useful for real life problems where even thousandth decimal matters, for example, connected to engineering. But, at the same time, it is often hard to understand what algebraic solution represents. And here comes the need of graphical solution. It visually shows us what the problem looks like and how the solution is calculated.
