Chapter 2 - Functions, Equations, and Graphs - Get Ready! - Page 57: 22

Work Step by Step

In order to begin solving for p, you must distribute on the right side of the equation. 1. -10p = 2(p-12) 2. Distribute: -10p = 2p-24 3. To solve for p, make sure all variables are on the same side. To do this, subtract 2p from both sides. 4. -10p-2p=2p-2p-24 5. Simplify by combining like terms: -12p=-24 6. To solve for p, you must get the variable by itself. To do this, divide both sides by -12. 7. p=2
