Stargirl

Stargirl (Chapters 15-20)

How does the speaker of this quote compare to the mud frogs that we read about earlier in the book (extended metaphor--and remember to identify the speaker in your answer...that is part of your score) : "She taught me to revel. She taught me to wonder. She taught me to laugh. My sense of humor had always measured up to everyone else's; but timid, introverted me, I showed it sparingly: I was a smiler. In her presence I threw back my head and laughed out loud for the first time in my life" (Spinelli, 107). Use cited evidence from the text to support your explanation.

Like the mud frogs, the speaker is laying dormant, unaware of the beauty around her until Stargirl opens the speaker's eyes. It's the little things that make life complete..... the small things, the gestures, the words..... human interaction, caring about the things around you, and really looking to see what they are.
