Why does Rachel not give Melinda the chance to tell her side of the story?

like why does she not let her tell why she called the police in the first place? there's no reason she just walks out of Melinda's life without reason.

Rachel does not want to be ostracized..... Melinda is no longer welcome among the other students, as everyone blames her for the arrival of the police. It isn't about what actually happened, the cause wasn't important, only the effect, and Rachel didn't want to be a part of it, so she steered clear of Melinda. Rachel wasn't willing to sacrifice her own reputation to stand by her friend..... from which, we might infer that Melinda is better off without her.
