Will was born one minute before midnight on October 30. He is also thirteen years old at the start of the novel, a mere two minutes older than Jim. Of the two boys, Will is the more cautious and innocent. At first Charles does not connect with Will's kinder gentle disposition rather he is drawn to Jim's dark brooding personality. Charles, however, develops a close relationship with Will as Will helps him realize that there is still life left within him and that age is a state of mind.
