How mr. hallway changed circumstances in the mirror maze and why he is happy now?

Charles Halloway actually does quite a few things at the end of the book to make him happy. With a crushed hand, he is able to go into the carnival, outsmart Mr. Dark and destroy the Mirror Maze. He does this by countering evil with happiness and laughter.
