Cause and Effect Writing
Kind of Activity:
Individual Writing
Objective:
Students will analyze events from the text and consider the consequences of those decisions or actions to understand cause and effect.
Common Core Standards:
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.11-12.5
Structure:
Have each student think of three significant events from the book. For each event, students will write a response detailing:
- what they would have done differently
- how the outcome of the book would change because of that different action, and why
- if the book would be better or worse because of this change
