A Rose For Emily and Other Short Stories

Why repeat that the taxes were remitted and that she was, "like the carven torso of an idol in a niche"? What could be the author's point on each of these matters?

This repetition leaves no doubt in the reader as to Miss. Emily's position in town or her attitude of entitlement. What we see in this passage directly relates to illustrating the facets of her personality.
