If the townspeople like Henry, why do they disapprove of his courting miss Emily? Why do they begin to call Miss Emily “Poor Emily”?

We see the term "poor Emily" in part three. Emily has fallen in social standing by courting a mere laborer. Emily disregards social standing as well as the town's opinion of her. The town judges that Emily has become a lost cause.
