Anaphora is the repetition of a word or phrase at the beginning of successive lines. In this poem, anaphora is used in word ‘Three’. It is repeated in line 5 and 7 using different details. The reptation of three is meant to illustrate the time the speaker has been away from the beloved. Three has a certain forlorn and intense feel to it.
