    Writing a Review

    Kind of Activity:

    Mixed Media

    Objective:

    Students will be able to write a review of Seize the Day in the style of an Op-Ed.

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RH.11-12.2

    Structure:

    Part 1: Brainstorm

    First, students will decide on how they will review the novel. Here are some prompts to get them started:

    1. Did you like the novel? Why or why not?

    2. What do you think Bellow was trying to achieve with this novel? Do you think he succeeded?

    3. Does Bellow critique the society he describes or does he somehow endorse it?

    4. How has this novel "aged"? Does it feel relevant today?

    Part 2: Writing the review

    The review itself should be several paragraphs...
