Helen despises Goeth. She has been specially chosen, largely because of her attractiveness, to serve in Goeth's villa. Goeth is passive aggressive towards Helen. She never knows when Goeth will be nice to her or when he will physically beat her:

HELEN: The more you see of the Herr Kommandant, the more you see there are no set rules you can live by, you cannot say to yourself, "If I follow these rules, I will be safe."
