Who is it? And what is his purpose for being there?

At the beginning of Act IV in Romeo and Juliet, Juliet has gone to Friar Lawrence to ask him to help her get out of the marriage to Paris. When she gets to the church, she encounters another character who is already talking to Friar Lawrence. Who is it? And what is his purpose for being there?
