Benvolio is always a peace-maker throughout the play. He tries to keep the peace during the first fight in act one sc. 1 and he keeps doing this whenever the threat of violence is at hand. He even tries to calm Romeo down when he shows up in Mantua with the news that Juliet is dead. Benvolio is level headed and very much a static character in this sense.
