I suppose there might have been contreversy but the play is so well known and so old that I would hope people would have settled down by now. The contrevercy would have been about these two young lovers killing themselves over lost love. The play is partly a morality tale about rash and impulsive love. I'm not sure what questions you are wanting to make.
