    Waythorn: Waythorn is a gentleman above all else. He was careful to pursue Alice only after enough time had passed from her divorce with Varick and had Alice return the pearls her ex-husband had gifted to her before they wed. He never wants to outdone in civility and is careful to always behave as expected in high society. He is slightly jealous and competitive with Alice's exes, happy to be more "self-possessed" but also upset by how much interacting with them initially upsets him.
