Why does Stacey take away the flute and never take it out again?

Stacey puts away the flute because T.J. makes fun of him and because Mr. Logan says, "We Logans don't have much to do with white folks. You know why? 'Cause white folks mean trouble." Stacey keeps the flute in his secret box because it is a gift from a friend.
