Why does Papa bring home Mr.Morrison?

In chapter 2, papa brings home Mr.Morrison. Why do you think he brought the big man home with him? Why do you think Mr.Morrison is willing to stay at the Logan house and help out?

Papa brings Mr. Morrison home to help protect the family while he is away working on the railroad. Morrison lost his job after being provoked into a fight by some white men. Thus, he is ready and willing to help out his friend, which in turn, helps him.
