Why did Mildred D. Taylor name Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry what it is named?

The title comes from a spiritual song previously sung by slaves. The words appear in Section Six, and I believe the title was chosen because blacks were still fighting against the dominance and poor treatment they received at the hands of whites. The title portrays the black's refusal to be dominated.
