Why is mama fired from her teaching job?

Mama is fired because she isn't teaching from the textbook. When Mr. Granger walked into Mama's classroom she was teaching her class about slavery. Rather than use the textbook, which she knew for a fact wasn't factual, she taught the children what she knew to be true.
