Rip Van Winkle goes into the forest to get away from his nagging wife. He ends up climbing to high points in the Catskill Mountains. Mountains represent a sense of reflection, discovery, and change. They are geographical high points that illuminate the senses. Certainly reflection, discovery, and change are at the heart of Ri Van Winkle's new world that he wakes up to.
