Descartes put forth the theory that all firm foundations lay in the mind and not the senses. His aim was to prove that everything we experience comes to us in our mind. He reasons that if scientific knowledge came from our senses, we could not trust its laws. When left to our senses, the laws of science (like gravity) would be subjective.
