The narrator arrives at Maxim's estate and immediately feels a sense of intimidated by the servants, particularly the housekeeper, Mrs. Danvers, who runs the estate. There is the strange relationship between the housekeeper and the Rebecca as well as a strange cabin that Maxim gets upset about when the narrator inquires about it.
