Ramona Irony

Ramona Irony

Irony of foster children

Ramona is a foster child of Senora Moreno who only gives her luxury because her sister told her to do in her death bed. Moreno does not think for Ramona’s well being. Later in the novel, we have seen that Ramona loves her child from her previous affairs with Alessandro. In fact, her husband Felipe loves them too. So, it’s a great irony for Senora Moreno that she does not love her foster child but her son will love his foster child.

Irony of love affairs

Alessandro loves Ramona so much that they elope to avoid any adverse circumstances for them. But, we can see that by eloping they fall in more adverse situation than they expect. No Americans help them out of that situation. They settle in the San Bernardino Mountains. But there, Alessandro goes insane for his humiliation as well as his family and finally died. It is a great pity that the devoted couple finally separated because of their destiny.

Irony of the Mexican family

Senora Moreno hates all Native Americans to keep her Mexican culture and rituals. But her son Felipe Moreno does not grow up like her. He is liberal. The irony is, Ramona who is Native American did not get love and affection from her Mexican aunt but her Mexican brother marries her and they live a happy life.

Irony of destiny for Ramona

The irony for Ramona is that, Alessandro to whom she loves more than Felipe has died but made an incarnation of him- i.e. their child. But Felipe to whom she loves more as a brother than as a husband has made her to live a happy life with junior Ramona (child from her previous marriage with Alessandro).

Irony of destiny for Alessandro

The irony for Alessandro is that, he may have a greater prospect in his life. He is tall, wise handsome catholic who is the head of Native American sheep shearers. However, he changes his destiny after his elopement with Ramona. If he did not elope, he might lead a better life. It is a great irony of his life that he has died after being an insane in front of social humiliation.
