In an era where an early marriage often determines social status and wealth, Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy certainly take their time getting around to it.  is Elizabeth Bennet is lively, quick-witted, sharp-tongued, bold and intelligent. She is keen and perceptive, but Elizabeth's pride in that very ability engenders a prejudice that almost hinders her happy future with Darcy. Elizabeth is not impressed by mere wealth or titles; rather, she values propriety, good-manners, and virtue. Elizabeth refuses to throw herself at a man simply because of his wealth and social stature. Mr. Darcy is proud, haughty and extremely conscious of class differences. Like Elizabeth he is quite discerning of whom he should marry. Both are willing to be independent until they are satisfied that they have the right mate.
