Drama is also a type of a play written for theater, television, radio, and film. In simple words, a drama is a composition in verse or prose presenting a story in pantomime or dialogue.

Main Elements of Drama

- Basically there are six elements of drama. They are,

1. Plot of the story

2.The theme of the story

3. The genre in which the story belongs

4. The characters

5. The setting

6. The audience

Plot of the story

The plot is what happens in a story. However, a plot is not a simple sequence of events. A strong plot is centered on one moment—an interruption of a pattern, a turning point, or an action ,that raises a dramatic question, which must be answered throughout the course of the story.

Types of plots - Exposition, Rising Action, Climax, Falling Action, Resolution

The theme of the story

The theme of a play refers to its central idea. It can either be clearly stated through dialog or action, or can be inferred after watching the entire performance. The theme is the philosophy that forms the base of the story or a moral lesson that the characters learn.

The genre in which the story belongs

The genre of a play refers to the type of story being told and is decided by the playwright . The style of a play is how the work is presented on stage.

The characters

Characters are the people, or sometimes animals, subjected in the drama, and are portrayed by the actors and actresses in the play. They are one of the main components that move the action of the play forward.

The setting

The setting is the place, together with other conditions, such as time and the environment, involved in which the events occur. The setting in the drama can be presented through the visual element and deals with the scenes, costumes and special effects used in it.

The audience

Audience is a group of people who watch the play. Audience can be said to be the most important element of drama to be considered about, since it is the audience that determines whether the play is successful or not.
