The Raven includes many of the traditional elements of gothic literature. The atmosphere is foreboding, and the setting is dark and dreary. Other elements would be the narrators isolation, and his shifting moods..... one minute he smiles at the raven..... the next he calls it a devil. The supernatural is also a major element, the raven itself fits into this category, as do references to heaven and hell.
