Lucius Annaeus Seneca, also known as Seneca the Younger, was a rhetorician, philosopher, playwright, Senator, and tutor to the Roman Emperor Nero. A son of well-off parents, he was born in what is now Spain and educated in Rome. As a young adult, Seneca was named a Senator and quickly earned a reputation as a skilled speaker, attracting many supporters for his Stoic beliefs and criticism of the hedonism and excesses of wealth.
