This novel shows the real effects of developments in government infrastructures in third world countries. For the villagers, the support of their national government was something they had not even considered, but when they go to find new opportunities (not without some trouble) they find out that their little local economy does in fact warrant government development. They are building their small businesses when their tragic end comes.
