Marjane is getting used to the war. She was not as possessed with fear as in previous chapters. She adapted to the flow of violence that is a product of war. She is also growing up and she has friends that are older than her. Marjane also understands government "spin" and propaganda better than she ever did as a child. She understands that the regime needs a perpetual war to keep control of the country. This very Orwellian idea is still a reality today.
