In Chapter 6, Peter wakes up when he hears kids and coaches approaching the baseball field, so he sits in the bleachers and watches. While watching, Peter thinks about how a baseball field is one place where he feels like he was born to be and remembering meetings with his therapist. Peter remembers telling his father that he didn't want to go to the therapist anymore, even though he continues to wonder if he was responsible for his mother's death. Not long after his mother's death, Peter found a dead fox, and while looking for a place to bury the fox, he found the den and Pax.

When the baseball practice finishes, Peter gets ready to leave, and he even talks to the boy in the red t-shirt that he was watching. The boy thinks Peter is from a rival team checking out the players. On the way home, he goes back to the highway and tries to stay off the road to avoid cars. Unfortunately, he steps in water, catches his foot on a root, and breaks a bone, which leaves him unable to walk.
