How is Othello a sympathetic character?

I have to write an essay on how Othello, who is so easily duped by Iago and so violently cruel to Desdemona, remains for us a sympathetic character.

If you could include quotes with page numbers it wuold be great, but if not thats fine too though.

This is a thematic question. I have provided a link to Gradesaver's theme page below. On another note, looking for ways to find Othello sympathetic is a difficult task. Iago's intent is so easily accomplished that we have to ask why this powerful, brave, and from what we can see..... loving man finds it so easy to believe the accusations against his wife. His pride and ultimate violence are not conducive to sympathy.
