Desdemona fell in love with Othello's masculine yet vulnerable personality. Othello was a man that was larger than life yet his emotional state showed vulnerability. Although Desdemona's father forbids her to marry the moor, Desdemona did anyway. The Duke accepted the marriage because they needed Othello for their military exploits.
