Do you think Crake really is in love with Oryx? Why or why not?
The answer to this depends on students' individual interpretations of Crake's character and actions. Keep in mind that everything is filtered through Jimmy's unreliable narration. Consider Jimmy's biases, Crake's agenda, and his dialogue concerning Oryx. Some students may believe Crake to be a sociopath, unable to feel true human connection, and therefore not in love with Oryx; others may believe that Oryx and Jimmy are the only people Crake has ever felt connected to, except perhaps for his father.
