Oread

Oread Summary

The poem "Oread" consists of a single stanza, and begins with the speaker addressing the sea, commanding it directly to "whirl" and "splash" its "pointed pines" (presumably a metaphor for its powerful and tall green waves) onto the speaker and her coastal surroundings. She requests that the ocean "hurl" its green color over "us" ("us" referring perhaps to her and her comrades, or to her and all those who feel such desire). The speaker then asks the ocean one last time to cover them with its pools of water, which she refers to metaphorically as "fir."
