Chief has been in the hospital for so long, and has been abused in so many ways that I find him the most sympathetic character in the novel. Everyone likes to make it about Nurse R and McMurphy, but they've both chosen their own paths, whereas other have chosen Bromden's. His development throughout the course of the novel provides him with a sense of self.......

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

Randle McMurphy is probably the character that most affected me. He is a rebel that really should not be in a mental hospital. Hus rebellion seems to be about annoying nurse Ratchet but we see it goes beyond that. He truly cares about the other patience in the ward; He is an extremely intelligent man which makes his lobotomy so painful to witness.
