McMurphy takes Ratched's attempts at manipulating him and uses them against her. He sees her manipulations as a challenge and does not conform.

Ratched responds to McMurphy's manipulative techniques with frustration. She doesn't like being manipulated, but she is quick to turn the tables.

The other men submit to manipulation out of fear. The men are emasculated, oppressed, dehumanized and taken advantage of by both Ratched and McMurphy.
