Once Upon a Time

4. How does Gordimer’s nonfictional introduction help to get the reader in the right mood to hear this rather horrifying fairy tale?

I thought it was interesting. The author breaks that wall between the reader and the writer. I personally found it distracting rather than a hook. It took me outside of the main narrative. I think it was supposed to create an instant connection with the reader.
