In regard to the novel, Oliver Twist, the perfect example of this concept is the locket. Any mention of the locket brings Oliver's dead mother to mind immediately. Her protrait, contained in the locket, is repeated later in the story when we discover the identity of Oliver's family. The object is unmistakeable and immediately brings Oliver's origins to mind.
