The Pilgrims faced great hardship and grief during their early months in America. They faced these hardships with acceptance and determination to make a better life for themselves in a country where they were free to practice their faith. During "The Starting Time", half of the company died within a short period between two and three months. Most deaths occurred in the dead of winter. Illnesses such as scurvy were caused by the long journey and inadequate, unsanitary accommodations. There was a group of six or seven men, however, who took it upon themselves to try and take care of all the colony's needs.... from fetching wood, to washing clothes, and feeding the weak and infirm. Two of these men were Elder William Brewster and Captain Myles Standish.

How they made their way to Holland by accepting the physical and mental sufferings?
