why does Crooks suggest to lennie that George might not come back?

Actually, I think Crooks is turning the tables and taunting Lennie because it makes him feel better about himself. Crooks is lonely and has always been somewhat disrespected and ostrasized because of his color...... in a strange way I think that taunting lennie gives him a sense of satisfaction.
