George knows that there is a good chance that Lennie will get himself into trouble, similar to what happened in Weed. He tells Lennie to find his way back to the clearing if he gets in trouble. That way, he can help Lennie escape if people are looking for him. This is some heavy use of foreshadowing by Steinbeck.
