Lennie wants to coninue the relationship that he and George have had for many years. Lennie wants to discuss their future, and George does accommodate that discussion before he kills him. Lennie dies believing in the future that he and George have created in their minds, so in a way he dies happy. These last comments put him in a calm state of mind.
