Of Mice and Men

How does the account of Whitey's quitting contribute the book's mood of alienation?

Whitey's ability to pack up his things and leave without a thought reiterates the lives these men led. They had no ties, no emotional connections, and no real friends. Freinds and family might tie them down, thus, they alienate themselves from the people around them.
