How does Curley's wife increase the suspense in Chapter 2?

Curley's wife's appearance in the second chapter set us up for what's to come. Candy describes her as a tart, she wanders around the ranch aimlessly on the pretense that she is looking for her husband, she flirts overtly with the other men, and our biggest hint of all is the fact that George says she is going to be trouble.
